Artist Statement
Kylie McLaughlin’s paintings explore the relation and observation of curated environments, display of biodiversity, and human perception/categorization of nature. Her collection based works expose the influence of social history and natural history on the animal world. Being in NYC, the insatiable curiosity of taxonomy is skewed by the urban human centered way we have altered the life around us. She continues to observe the artificial presentation and manipulated subjects of Natural History based institutions and the modern day "wild" that have captivated the sentient human attention.
